Fourth Circuit Decision Opens The Door To Joint Employer Liability For Contractors – Could Your Company Be At Risk?

On January 25, 2017, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals[1] dealt a significant blow to the traditional contractor-subcontractor relationship.  In finding that a contractor and subcontractor could be considered “joint employers” of the subcontractor’s workers for purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”), the court’s decision has opened a Pandora’s Box of potential wage and hour issues, including claims for overtime pay against contractors and higher tier subcontractors from the employees of lower tier subcontractors. 2016 Holiday Party – ‘Tis The Season

CPN hosted a holiday party on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Greensboro Country Club. Members from around the state gathered to celebrate the season and enjoyed a festive evening of food and drinks.

2016 Sporting Clay Tournament Recap

The 2016 CPN Sporting Clay Tournament was held at Hunting Creek Preserves in Harmony, NC on Friday, November 11, 2016 (Veteran’s Day). The tournament was made up of 16 teams with shooters from across the state to participate in this year’s tournament. Thank you to all the sponsors, players, and volunteers for making the tournament a success. A special program honoring our veterans featuring the local high school color guard and Colonel David Jones was enjoyed by all attendees.

The tournament kicked off with beautiful fall weather. 2016 Chair Ron Rothrock, Ron Rothrock & Associates and committee members Richard Conner, Conner Gwyn Schenck, Leo Stepansky, Shelco LLC,Tony Jordan, Resolute and Robert Coon, Scott Insurance organized a day full of networking, fun, and friendly competition.  Lunch was a Country style buffet feast with all the fixin’s provided by Conner Gwyn Schenck and Davie Construction Company. The tournament concluded with a light reception and awards ceremony.

September Statewide Meeting Recap

We had a  great meeting at Forsyth Technical Communicaty College on Thursday, September 22, 2016. The Star Award Winning Project “B/E Aerospace Developmental Lab” was our highlight. We heard from team members: Leo Stepansky, Shelco, Paige Smith, West & Stem, Toby Hill, Shelco, and Manan Adhyaru, S&ME, Inc.

June 16, 2016 Statewide Meeting | Charlotte

We had a great crowd for the Summer Statewide meeting at UNC-Charlotte. Meeting provided information & tours of the Holshouser Renovation.
We heard from project team members about the challenges of renovating a campus building to fit in with the updated campus scheme. Members came from Greensboro, Raleigh, and Charlotte to tour the Star Award winning project. Click here to view photos from this event.





2016 Annual Conference Recap

The CPN Annual Conference was held May 6-8, 2016 at The Sea Pines Resort, Harbour Town Inn, Hilton Head, SC. CPN members and guests from around the state “weathered the storm” for a terrific weekend of fellowship. Highlights included:

  • A welcome reception on “The Pier” complete with live music, seafood, a dolphin sighting, and a beautiful sunset.
  • The 2016-17 CPN of CPNI Board of Directors were voted in and took their oath of office.
